Rather than focusing primarily on AI tools or prompting techniques, the certificate centers on professional judgment: how to evaluate AI-generated materials, preserve meaningful student thinking, redesign assessment, protect sensitive information, and make responsible classroom and schoolwide decisions.

The need for practical guidance is growing quickly. Nationally representative RAND research found that 53% of surveyed English language arts, mathematics, and science teachers used AI for instructional planning or teaching during the 2024–25 school year. A 2026 Gallup survey found that only 18% of U.S. public K–12 teachers reported receiving formal guidance from school administrators about how AI tools should be used in their work.

Across six modules, participants examine questions such as: Can this AI-generated material actually be trusted? Is AI supporting student thinking or replacing it? What evidence demonstrates that a student has learned? What information should never be entered into an AI system? How should educators respond to student AI use? How can schools create clearer and more consistent expectations?
The certificate includes six modules, applied assessments, six Portfolio Studios, practical resources, and a final capstone. No technical background or prior AI expertise is required.
Participants who successfully complete the program earn 1.2 Continuing Education Units, representing 12 contact hours, and receive a Certificate of Completion from UNH Professional Development & Training.
The certificate is designed for classroom teachers, instructional coaches, curriculum leaders, specialists, school administrators, technology leaders, and district teams.
Individual enrollment is $129. Team and PLC pricing is $99 per participant for groups of 5–15, and school pricing is $79 per participant for groups of 16–100. Districts enrolling 101 or more participants receive custom volume pricing beginning at $59 per participant.
